All leagues play 7v7, including the goalkeeper. Each game consists of a 44‑minute running clock that begins at the scheduled game time; the clock only stops if deemed necessary by Stars Indoor Sports management. Teams should be ready to take the field as soon as the previous game ends, since games run back‑to‑back on schedule. If a team isn't ready when the clock starts, that playing time is lost. If a penalty kick is awarded before time expires, the kick is still taken, but no rebound attempts are allowed if the shot is missed.

Substitutions are made "on the fly" at each team's own risk — the player leaving the field must be completely off before the substitute enters. Goalkeepers may be substituted at any time. If play stops for an injury, the injured player must leave the field and may return once play resumes. If the goal differential in a game reaches five or more, the losing team may add an extra field player; that player must come back off if the differential drops back below five.

All kicks are direct and must be taken within five seconds of the ball being placed at the restart spot. Slide tackling is not permitted on turf — a deliberate slide tackle results in a yellow card. Goalkeepers are not allowed to punt the ball; punting results in a direct free kick to the opposing team at the top of the arc. Penalty kicks are taken from the penalty spot at the top of the box.

A yellow card is a two‑minute penalty — the offending player leaves the field and their team plays short‑handed for the duration. If the opposing team scores during that time, the penalty ends immediately and the penalized team returns to full strength, though the carded player must still serve the full two minutes and cannot be the one to re‑enter (unless the team has no available substitutes). Yellow card offenses include unsporting behavior, dissent by word or action, persistent infringement of the rules, and entering or re‑entering the field without the referee's permission.

A red card means immediate removal from the bench and facility. The team plays one player short for a mandatory five‑minute penalty with no early release; after five minutes, the red‑carded player may be replaced. All red cards carry a minimum one‑game suspension (whether from an immediate red or two yellows), served during the team's next scheduled game if it falls on a bye week. A player or coach receiving two red cards in a session is suspended for the rest of that session and the following one. Red card offenses include serious foul play, violent conduct, deliberate boarding, spitting anywhere other than a trash can, denying an obvious goal‑scoring opportunity by deliberate handling or a foul, and offensive or abusive language or gestures. Stars Indoor Sports reserves the right to lengthen or shorten any suspension, up to an indefinite suspension from the facility, for fighting, violent conduct, or abusive behavior toward players, referees, or staff.

Teams must have a minimum of five players ready to play within ten minutes of the scheduled start time, or the game is forfeited as a 5‑0 loss (Coed leagues must include at least one female player among that minimum). A game may also be forfeited if a team hasn't paid its team fees by the deadline, uses illegal players, refuses to take the field, or doesn't have enough players to continue (teams may begin or continue a game two players short of the standard side). Any team that forfeits a game is ineligible to win the league. Goal differential is capped at 5 for scoring purposes — a 10‑0 win is recorded as 5‑0.

Each team may roster up to 18 players, plus up to 3 coaches, all 18 or older for adult leagues. Rosters must be submitted by the start of the first game, with no additions allowed after the third game. Teams that use an illegal player forfeit the affected game; teams that haven't submitted a roster by their second game forfeit every game until they do. A team captain or coach may challenge an opponent's roster before the game or before the 22‑minute mark (not after); players from both teams must then present valid ID matching their roster name. Over 30 leagues allow up to 2 rostered players between the ages of 25 and 29, with correct birthdate information on file. Players may play for more than one Stars team, as long as the teams are age‑appropriate and not in the same division.

Outdoor cleats are not permitted — players must wear turf shoes, flats, or tennis shoes. Shin guards are optional but recommended for adult leagues. Earrings and jewelry aren't allowed during games, except medical or religious items the referee deems safe. Teams must wear matching colored shirts; the home team changes jerseys in the event of a color conflict, and goalkeepers must wear a color distinct from both teams and the referee. Bring a backup jersey when possible. The home team (listed first on the schedule) supplies the game ball.

Regular season standings are decided by 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. Ties are broken in order by head‑to‑head result, goal differential, fewest goals conceded, most wins, and most goals scored.

No outdoor cleats, gum, or spitting on the turf — spitting anywhere but a trash can is an automatic red card. Team bench areas are limited to rostered players and up to 3 rostered coaches, with at least one coach 21 or older present at all times. Please clear the field and gather your belongings immediately after your game; team meetings aren't allowed on the field or in the bench area, but coaches are welcome to meet with their team in the lobby.
